Un hematoma del hueso es provocado por fuerzas compresivas en las que se incurre durante una lesión. El área lesionada se presenta en la porción medular del hueso y puede estar acompañada de sangrado e hinchazón.
Los hematomas son generalmente ocasionadas por caídas, lesiones al practicar un deporte, accidentes automovilísticos o por golpes recibidos de otras personas o de objetos. Los hematomas pueden durar de días a meses, siendo los hematomas óseos los más severos y dolorosos .
