Gastroplastia vertical con banda

Las operaciones gástricas restrictivas, como la gastroplastia vertical con banda (VGB, por sus siglas en inglés) sirven únicamente para restringir y disminuir la ingesta de alimento y no interfieren con el proceso digestivo normal.

En este procedimiento, la porción superior del estómago cerca al esófago se cierra con grapas en forma vertical para crear una pequeña bolsa a lo largo de la curva interior del estómago. Se restringe la salida de la bolsa al resto del estómago por medio de una banda hecha de un material especial. Dicha banda retarda el vaciado de los alimentos desde la bolsa, provocando una sensación de llenura.
