La queratosis pilaris se presenta más comúnmente durante la niñez y se manifiesta con pequeñas lesiones ásperas elevadas (pápulas). Estas pápulas se describen como "espinosas y queratósicas" y típicamente son del color de la piel. Por lo general las pápulas aparecen en la superficie externa de la parte superior de los brazos y en los muslos, aunque también pueden aparecer en otras partes del cuerpo. La aspereza se acentúa en la piel seca y la condición es más severa en el invierno. Esta afección tiende a ser hereditaria y puede presentarse con la dermatitis atópica.
