La tetralogía de Fallot es un defecto cardíaco congénito que consiste en cuatro anomalías, las cuales producen un bombeo insuficiente de sangre oxigenada al cuerpo. Al nacer, es posible que los lactantes no muestren signos de cianosis, pero posteriormente se pueden presentar episodios de piel azulada al llorar o al comer. A éstos se les llama episodios cianóticos (
"tet spells"
, en inglés).
