La tetralogía de Fallot es un defecto congénito del corazón que consiste en cuatro anomalías, las cuales traen como consecuencia el bombeo de sangre insuficientemente oxigenada al cuerpo. Se clasifica como un defecto cardíaco cianótico porque la condición conduce a la cianosis, una coloración azulada o púrpura de la piel y falta de aliento debido a los niveles bajos de oxígeno en la sangre. La cirugía para reparar los defectos en el corazón se realiza generalmente entre los tres y cinco años de edad, pero en formas más severas puede ser indicada antes. En la mayoría de los casos, el corazón es reparado quirúrgicamente y el resultado es favorable.
