Las fontanelas son las "partes blandas" de la cabeza del bebé que están en el sitio donde las placas que forman el cráneo todavía no se han unido. Es normal que los niños menores de un año tengan estas "partes blandas", las cuales pueden verse y palparse en la parte superior y posterior de la cabeza. Las fontanelas que son anormalmente grandes pueden indicar la presencia de una condición médica.
