Definición:

Es la lesión a uno o a los dos nervios que están conectados a la laringe.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La lesión a los nervios laríngeos es poco común, sin embargo, se puede presentar como una complicación de una cirugía en el cuello o en el tórax, especialmente una cirugía de tiroides, pulmones o del corazón, o como resultado de la colocación de un tubo de respiración en la tráquea (sonda endotraqueal).

El daño a estos nervios también puede ocurrir a raíz de tumores en el cuello o en la parte superior del tórax, como el cáncer tiroideo o el cáncer pulmonar.
