Síntomas:

El bebé generalmente es grande para su edad gestacional. Otros síntomas pueden abarcar:

  • Piel azulada o con manchas, frecuencia cardíaca rápida, respiración rápida (signos de insuficiencia cardíaca)
  • Ictericia del recién nacido
  • Alimentación deficiente, letargo, llanto débil (signos de hipoglucemia severa)
  • Cara hinchada
  • Apariencia rojiza
  • Temblores o estremecimiento poco después del nacimiento

Signos y exámenes:

Una ecografía realizada a la madre en los últimos meses del embarazo muestra un bebé grande para su edad gestacional.

Después del nacimiento, los exámenes pueden mostrar que el bebé tiene hipoglucemia e hipocalciemia. Una ecocardiografía puede revelar un corazón anormalmente grande, lo cual puede llevar a que se presente insuficiencia cardíaca.
