Absceso anorrectal - Overview

Definición:

Es una acumulación de pus en el área del ano y el recto.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Las causas comunes del absceso anorrectal abarcan:

  • Glándula obstruida en el área
  • Infección de una fisura anal
  • Infección transmitida sexualmente

Los abscesos rectales profundos pueden ser causados por trastornos intestinales tales como enfermedad de Crohn.

Los siguientes factores aumentan el riesgo de un absceso anorrectal:

  • Sexo anal
  • Fármacos quimioterapéuticos para tratar el cáncer
  • Diabetes
  • Enfermedad intestinal inflamatoria (enfermedad de Crohn y colitis ulcerativa)
  • Uso de medicamentos como prednisona
  • Sistema inmunitario debilitado (como por ejemplo a raíz de VIH /SIDA)

Esta afección se puede presentar en bebés y niños pequeños que aún utilizan pañales y que tienen antecedentes de fisuras anales.
