Definición:

Los virus ECHO (del inglés Enteric Cytopathic Human Orphan virus) son un grupo de enterovirus que producen diversos síntomas, incluyendo erupciones, enfermedades respiratorias, síndromes similares al crup y fiebres inespecíficas.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Las infecciones por virus ECHO son comunes y usualmente se manifiestan en forma de infecciones gastrointestinales y erupciones cutáneas.

Las infecciones más graves se observan con menos frecuencia, pero tienen una importancia significativa. Se cree que uno de cinco casos de meningitis aséptica (una infección cerebral no provocada por bacterias) es causada por un virus ECHO.
