Definición:

Es una acumulación de líquido articular (líquido sinovial) que se forma detrás de la rodilla.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Un quiste de Baker se puede formar por la conexión de una bolsa normal (un saco normal con líquido lubricante) con la articulación de la rodilla. Este tipo es más común en niños.

La afección también puede ser causada por una hernia de la cápsula de la articulación de la rodilla en su parte posterior, lo cual es más común en adultos. Esto ocurre con frecuencia con una ruptura en el cartílago meniscal de la rodilla.

En las personas mayores, los quistes de Baker con frecuencia están asociados con artritis de la rodilla.
