Los síntomas de retinopatía diabética abarcan:

Muchas personas con retinopatía diabética inicial no presentan síntomas antes de que ocurra un sangrado mayor en el ojo. Ésta es la razón por la cual toda persona con diabetes debe hacerse exámenes regulares de los ojos.

Signos y exámenes:

En casi todos los casos, el médico puede diagnosticar la retinopatía diabética dilatando las pupilas con gotas para los ojos y examinado luego la retina cuidadosamente. También, se puede emplear una fotografía de la retina o una angiografía con fluoresceína.
