Hernia femoral - Información general

Definición:

Es una protrusión de un asa del intestino a través de un debilitamiento de la pared abdominal, localizada en la ingle cerca del muslo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Aunque generalmente se cree que las hernias son ocasionadas al levantar objetos pesados, frecuentemente no existe un hecho precipitante obvio. Las hernias se forman cuando una parte de un órgano abdominal, usualmente el intestino delgado, protruye a través de un punto débil o de un desgarre en la pared muscular delgada del abdomen que mantiene los órganos abdominales en su lugar.

En el caso de las hernias femorales, se presenta un abultamiento en la parte superior del muslo justo debajo de la ingle. Este tipo de hernias tienden a presentarse con más frecuencia en mujeres que en hombres.

Una hernia femoral puede encarcelarse y estrangularse (el asa del intestino pierde el suministro de sangre). En el caso de las hernias estranguladas, se pueden presentar náuseas y vómitos, así como dolor abdominal severo y es una emergencia médica.
