Amigdalitis - Overview

Definición:

Es la inflamación (hinchazón) de las amígdalas.

Las amígdalas son ganglios linfáticos que se encuentran en la parte posterior de la boca y en la parte de arriba de la garganta. Normalmente ayudan a eliminar las bacterias y otros gérmenes para prevenir infecciones en el cuerpo.

La amigdalitis estreptocócica es una causa de amigdalitis.

Las amígdalas pueden llegar a estar tan inundadas por infecciones bacterianas o virales que se hinchan y resultan inflamadas, causando amigdalitis. La infección también puede estar presente en la garganta y áreas circundantes, causando inflamación de la faringe. La faringe se encuentra en la parte posterior de la garganta entre las amígdalas y la laringe. Ver: faringitis

La amigdalitis es extremadamente común, especialmente en niños.
