Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El absceso periamigdalino es una complicación de la amigdalitis y su causa generalmente es un tipo de bacterias llamadas estreptococos beta-hemolíticos del grupo A.

El absceso periamigdalino es usualmente una enfermedad que ocurre en niños mayores, adolescentes y adultos jóvenes, y se ha vuelto relativamente muy poco común desde la introducción del uso de antibióticos para tratar la amigdalitis.
