Absceso retrofaríngeo - Treatment

Tratamiento:

La cirugía es necesaria para drenar el área infectada. Algunas veces, se administran corticoesteroides para reducir la inflamación de las vías respiratorias. Igualmente, se prescriben antibióticos por vía intravenosa en dosis altas para tratar la infección.

Se protegerá la vía respiratoria de manera que la inflamación no la bloquee por completo.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Es importante conseguir ayuda médica de inmediato. Esta afección puede llevar a una obstrucción de la vía respiratoria, lo cual puede ser potencialmente mortal. Sin embargo, con el tratamiento oportuno, uno puede recuperarse por completo.
