Herpangina - Información general

Definición:

Es una enfermedad viral en la cual se forman úlceras y lesiones (llagas) dentro de la boca con dolor de garganta y fiebre.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La herpangina es causada por el virus de Coxsackie, particularmente del grupo A.

El número de casos de herpangina se desconoce, pero es una infección común de la infancia. Se observa con mayor frecuencia en niños en edades de 3 a 10 años, pero puede presentarse en cualquier grupo etario. Los casos de herpangina en la escuela o el vecindario aumentan las probabilidades de que un niño llegue a padecer esta enfermedad.
