Mola hidatídica; Embarazo molar

Definición:

Es una masa o tumor poco común que se forma en el interior del útero al comienzo del embarazo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Una mola hidatiforme resulta de la sobreproducción de tejido que se supone forma la placenta, la cual normalmente le brinda alimento al feto durante el embarazo. En esta afección, los tejidos se desarrollan formando un tumor anormal, llamado masa, y con frecuencia no existe un feto en absoluto.

La causa de este trastorno no se ha comprendido completamente, pero existen algunas causas potenciales como anomalías en el óvulo, problemas dentro del útero o deficiencias nutricionales. Las mujeres menores de 20 años y mayores de 40 años tienen un riesgo mayor. Entre otros factores de riesgo se pueden mencionar las dietas bajas en proteína, ácido fólico y caroteno.
