Definición:

Es un sangrado vaginal anormal que no se debe a una causa física (anatómica).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El sangrado uterino disfuncional (DUB, por sus siglas en inglés) puede ser causado por un desequilibrio de hormonas: estrógenos o progesterona.

Los factores de riesgo abarcan:

  • Estrés emocional
  • Ejercicio excesivo
  • Obesidad

El sangrado uterino disfuncional ocurre en mujeres en sus años reproductivos (las que han comenzado su período, pero no han llegado a la menopausia). Aproximadamente el 20% de los casos de este tipo de sangrado se presenta en adolescentes y el 40% ocurre en mujeres mayores de 40 años de edad.
