Definición:

Es una inflamación del prepucio y del glande del pene.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La balanitis generalmente es causada por la higiene deficiente en los hombres a quienes no se les ha practicado la circuncisión. La inflamación se puede deber a infección, jabones fuertes o el hecho de no enjuagar adecuadamente el jabón al bañarse. Algunas otras enfermedades, como artritis reactiva y liquen escleroatrófico, pueden ocasionar balanitis. Asimismo, los hombres con diabetes mal controlada están en riesgo de desarrollar esta enfermedad.
