Definición:

Es alguien que duerme mucho menos en un período de 24 horas de lo que se espera para otras personas de su misma edad. Además, la persona no se muestra excesivamente soñolienta.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Aunque la necesidad individual de sueño varía bastante, un adulto normal requiere un promedio de 7 a 10 horas de sueño cada noche. Las personas que duermen poco tienen un tiempo de sueño de menos del 75% de lo que es normal para su edad y se despiertan de manera espontánea.

Estas personas son diferentes de las personas que crónicamente no duermen lo suficiente por razón de su trabajo o las exigencias de la familia, o que padecen afecciones médicas que les interrumpen el sueño.
