Definición:

Es una elevación en la presión cerebral normal.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Un aumento en la presión intracraneal puede deberse a un aumento en la presión del líquido cefalorraquídeo o también a un aumento en la presión dentro de la masa cerebral, causado por lesiones (como un tumor) o inflamación dentro de la masa cerebral propiamente dicha.

Un aumento en la presión intracraneal es un problema médico grave. La presión por sí sola puede dañar el sistema nervioso central, al ejercer presión sobre estructuras cerebrales importantes y restringir el flujo sanguíneo a través de los vasos sanguíneos que irrigan el cerebro.
