Los síntomas del hipotiroidismo provocado son los mismos del hipertiroidismo ocasionado por la glándula tiroides, salvo en estos casos:

  • Ausencia de bocio. La glándula tiroides es usualmente pequeña.
  • Los ojos no protruyen como lo hacen en la enfermedad de Graves (el tipo más común de hipertiroidismo).
  • No se presenta engrosamiento de la piel sobre las espinillas como sucede ocasionalmente con las personas que padecen la enfermedad de Graves.
