Definición:

Es un cáncer del páncreas.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El cáncer pancreático es la cuarta causa importante de muerte por cáncer en los Estados Unidos. Esta enfermedad es ligeramente más común en los hombres que en las mujeres y el riesgo de padecerla se incrementa con la edad.

La causa de esta afección se desconoce, pero es más común en las personas fumadoras y en las obesas y casi un tercio de los casos se debe al consumo de cigarrillos. Existe una controversia acerca de si la diabetes tipo 2 es un factor de riesgo para este tipo de cáncer. Se sabe que un pequeño número de casos está relacionado con síndromes que se transmiten a través de familias.
