Diabetes is a complicated and challenging disease. You will need a good partnership with your health care team, which may include a doctor, nurse, educator, and dietician. Make sure you have a team you can count on to bring the diabetes under control.
With training, you should feel thoroughly comfortable with all aspects of glucose testing, insulin treatment, and meal planning. Never be afraid to ask a question, or to ask it more than once!
Also, find out if there are other resources available in your area. Your hospital is an excellent place to get additional information on local resources and support groups. The American Diabetes Association has a monthly magazine,
Diabetes Forecast
, as well as cookbooks and many other publications to help people live with diabetes. Visit the magazine web site for more information: www.diabetes.org/diabetes-forecast.jsp.
